I caused a bit of a mini stir on Palmer Avenue yesterday. The daffodils on the sidewalk side of the inn’s white fence have gone by. Gardening experts tell us that we should not cut the leaves back until they have turned brown. Well, they looked untidy. Untidy is not a condition that is allowed in the gardens at the Palmer House Inn.

I remembered years ago, in our sailing days on the Chesapeake. Each Spring we would sail to Chestertown MD. It was always so pleasant to stroll the streets of this charming colonial town. We observed that after the spring blooms had passed the home owners would plat the leaves and tie them off with string. New Englanders would call it braiding.
A number of folks who were walking past stopped to inquire what I was doing. We chatted about spring flowers and sailing. It was a nice way to spend the afternoon and I feel much better now that the entrance to our pretty inn is once again is like our rooms, neet and tidy.
