There will be races of remotely controlled sail boats in Eel Pond, which is connected to Buzzards Bay and the Atlantic Ocean by a drawbridge. There will be presentations by the builders themselves. They will be eager to discuss their passion for model boat building with you. There will be kits available so that you can construct your own basic sail boat. If you prefer you can try your hand at controlling a remotely controlled motor boat.

For lunch Woods Hole has several year round restaurants. One of our favorites is the Captain Kidd. It features an antique mirrored bar with a wood burning fireplace and a cozy enclosed porch that is heated by an iron stove and overlooks the water. From the porch you will be able to sit at round tables on padded benches and cask tops and observe the activities on the Eel Pond. The prices are reasonable and you will be able to  choose from their traditional New England menu. The hamburgers are excellent and the fried clams are a local favorite not to mention their authentic clam chowder served piping hot.

Another year round restaurant that overlooks the entrance to Eel Pond and the drawbridge is The Fish Monger’s Cafe. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. As its name implies, its specialty is fresh fish, however, for those of you who prefer steaks, chops or chicken, there are  many offerings on the to please your palate. They have an outstanding raw bar and fried seafood menu that features: Oysters on the half shell, Shrimp cocktail, littlenecks on the half , shell, fish & chips plate, fried scollop plate and a fried clan plate with whole belly clams.

Come see the boats, listen to the presentations, sail your own model and have a great time. Then return to your cozy room at the Palmer House for a relaxing evening.
