Broiled Grapefruit Recipe

This Broiled Grapefruit recipe is a little bit of sunshine in the morning. The sugar on top of this tangy fruit make it a delightful starter to any morning.

A Delightful and Easy Fruit Recipe

Serves: 6

Ingredients:

    3 Grapefruits

  • Brown sugar
  • 6 Raspberries (or your choice of berry for garnish)

Directions:

Cut each grapefruit in half. Be sure to section the grapefruit so its easier to spoon out when eating. Sprinkle top or each grapefruit half with approximately 1 teaspoon of brown sugar.

Broil the grapefruit for 2 to 5 minutes or until the sugar starts to brown. Add berry garnish and serve immediately. 

Recipe Tip

Drizzle honey over the sugar for an extra layer of sweetness to this tangy/bitter citrus fruit.

A Lemon Sauce Recipe for Topping Gingerbread Pancakes

This recipe is a delightful sauce that is light and not too sweet, is a wonderful complement to our Gingerbread Pancake Recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup sugar
  • 1 Tbs cornstarch
  • 1/4 Tsp nutmeg
  • 1 Cup hot water
  • 1 Tbs butter
  • 1/2 Tsp grated lemon zest
  • 1 1/2 Tbs lemon juice

Directions

In a medium saucepan mix the sugar, cornstarch and nutmeg. Cook over medium head, stirring constantly, until the mixture is thick and clear. Add butter, lemon zest and lemon juice, stirring until the butter melts.

Serve hot.

This sauce can be prepared ahead of time, refrigerated, and then reheated before serving.

This Orange Creamsicle Smoothie recipe will remind you of the Summer exuberance you felt when were a child.

Makes 4 servings.

Ingredients:

  • 10 Cubes of frozen fresh squeezed orange juice
  • 1 Cup water or organic pineapple juice (depending on the sweetness of the oranges)
  • 1 Cup vanilla ice cream

Directions:

Wash fresh oranges and squeeze into a pitcher. Pour juice into ice-cube tray and freeze.

Place frozen orange juice cubes, pineapple juice or water, and ice cream into a blender and mix well. Pour mixture into your glassware. Garnish with fruit and whipped cream. Serve immediately.

Alternate Recipe Options: For a healthier version, try substituting vanilla yogurt for the ice cream and whipped cream.

Recipe Notes:

This recipe was brought to us by our daughter, who lives in Southern California. She has several orange trees in her garden. The trees bloom and come into fruit in alternating seasons. This way we always have fresh organic orange juice when we visit. It is delightful.

At the Palmer House, we frequently use fresh squeezed orange juice from the local farmer’s market. It makes a wonderful impression in our signature morning juice, the Cape Cod Sunrise.

Another key element to this recipe is the freezing of the orange juice. This not only allows you to save some of that healthy vitamin C for a few extra days, it allows the smoothie to contain all fruit and keeps it from tasting watered down.
