Lobster on the Lawn, a Cape Cod Tradition

Lobster on the Lawn

We know that summer has arrived when we hear the lobsterman’s bugle blowing on Monday evenings on the spacious Saint Barnabas lawn.

The bugle is played by a very energetic gentleman who is dressed in Bermuda shorts, a top hat and a lobster suit. He beckons one and all to join him for a fine feast of lobster rolls and chips on a warm summer’s evening. It is a wonderful village event and a great way to start off the week of enjoying all the the Cape has to offer. Everyone shares a table and friendly conversation over a meal with traditional Cape style.

Fifteen dollars is charged for a meal of a lobster roll, chips, a soft drink or bottled water and your choice of blueberry or apple pie. Children eat free. They are served: a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, chips, a drink-box and a cookie.

This year Saint Barnabas is holding their “Lobster on the Lawn” every Monday from July 8th through to August 19th. The feast is held rain or shine from five to seven P.M. and all proceeds go toward the churches soup kitchen. The kitchen serves three lunch time meals a week, year round to the needy.

St. Barnabas is located at 91 Main Street, on the Village Green and just a few steps from the Palmer House. You might remember hearing about St. Barnabas as the host for Falmouth’s Strawberry Festival every year in June.

While all of our rooms have their own Cape charm, we recommend the Theodore Roosevelt Room for its Victorian flourishes, the Emily Dickinson Room for its New England charm, and the Richard Henry Dana Room for its nautical theme. All of three of these rooms feature king beds and jacuzzi-style tubs for complete relaxation after that lobster feast.

On Saturday April 7th, Falmouth had its annual Easter Egg hunt.  Families from all over the area came to hunt for eggs in Peg Noonan Park and on Main Street.   The Easter bunny was there much to the delight of the little ones. The weather was mild the sun was shining and a good time was had by all.

The event was hosted by the Falmouth Village Association.
