Cape Christmas Cranberry Julep Recipe

Serves: 8

  • 1 Cup water
  • ¾ Cup sugar
  • 2, 3 inch strips fresh orange peel
  • 1 Cup fresh Cape Cod cranberries, plus additional for garnish
  • 1 Cup whiskey or bourbon
  • 8 Sprigs fresh mint

Directions:

Heat water, sugar, and orange peel on high in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Add cranberries and cook 2 to 3 minutes. The cranberries will pop and split but still hold their shape. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Refrigerate until cold.

Strain cranberry syrup and discard the solids. Stir whiskey or bourbon into syrup. Fill glasses with crushed ice and pour whiskey/bourbon mixture among glasses.

Spear 2-3 raw cranberries on a toothpick and add mint as a garnish.

Notes:

Use a vegetable peeler to create the orange peel strips.

This is an unexpected treat at breakfast, easy to prepare ahead of time, and uniquely Cape Cod.

Serves 8.

Ingredients

Group 1

  • 1 Cup whole fresh cranberries
  • 1/2 Cup sugar
  • 1/2 Cup red wine
  • 3/4 Cup fresh orange juice
  • 1/2 Tsp orange zest

Group 2

  • 1 Cup fresh orange juice
  • Mint leaves for garnish

Directions

Combine all the ingredients from group 1 in a saucepan.

Cook over medium heat until the cranberries are soft and break apart. Still continuously while heating. Allow mixture to cool to room temperature. Puree mixture until well blended. Pour into a shallow pan and freeze until solid.

Put mixture into a blender and gradually add 1 cup of orange juice. Process until light and fluffy. Put into a container and refreeze until ready for use.

Serve in small cups and garnish with a mint leaf.

Baked Apple Recipe

Palmer House’s Baked Apple Recipe

This recipe is made with a delightful cranberry and walnut stuffing.

Serves 5.

Ingredients

  • 5 Organic cooking apples
  • 1/2 Cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 Cup cranberries
  • 1/2 Cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 Cup granola
  • 1 Tsp ground cinnamon
  • Zest of one lemon
  • 5 Tbs of unsalted melted butter
  • 8 Oz vanilla organic yogurt

Directions

Wash and core apples. Remove 1/2 inch from the bottom of each apple so that they sit flat in the ramekins.

In a small bowl combine nuts, cranberries, sugar, granola, cinnamon, lemon zest, and butter. Place apples in ramekins and stuff with filling.

Top with vanilla yogurt. Serve hot or cold.
