Shining Sea Bikeway

Need a little activity on your Cape Cod holiday?

The Palmer House Inn is right next to the Shining Sea Bikeway. Guests may borrow one of the bicycles from the Inn (first come basis). This winding bike path takes you passed beaches, ponds and marshes.

One of my favorite trips is to ride to Woods Hole (a little over 4 miles) for lunch at the Captain Kidd. It’s a great place to sit on the deck watching the boats in the harbor while having a pub lunch. If you’re looking for seafood for lunch Landfall Restaurant is another favorite.

Don’t forget to stop by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Museum and Seal Tank. They sometimes have recovering wild seals so remember to be quiet when you approach the tank.

Shining Sea Bike Path in Fall

Just opened this spring is an additional eight miles of the bikeway. It takes you north, past beautiful vistas of the bay and ends in the charming village of North Falmouth. There you can have a cone at Smitty’s Ice Cream or lunch in the old caboose at the Silver Lounge. Before you start your return journey be sure to stop in Uncle Bill’s Store. When ever I go there I am sure to find something that the Inn just can’t do without.
