In Great Britain, Ireland and across Europe, the pub or “local” is the center of town life: a place to relax, refuel the body and the spirit, share news and be entertained. The British Beer Company is true to that spirit. There is a cozy fire for the winter months and plenty of views of the Falmouth Heights Beach and Vineyard Sound for year-round joy. The menu features traditional pub grub like Fish & Chips and Bangers & Mash, but it also mixes it up with local favorites like Cod Rarebit or a Chipotle Chicken Avacado Bap.

This is a great pub with a relaxed atmosphere and a fun place for families or couples. Last evening Bill and I decided to go to the BBC for dinner. The outside temperature was below freezing but inside, the two fireplaces and the charming staff made the atmosphere warm and welcoming. As we started to read the menu, Bill’s first comment was, “There are too many choices and everything looks good.” Because we are working on our new year’s resolutions, to lose a few pounds, we decided on a couple of outstanding salads. I had the “Fire roasted Flank Steak Salad”. I ordered the steak medium rare and it was done just to my liking. It was served with feta cheese, tomatoes, fingerling potatoes and mixed greens. It was finished with a balsamic pomegranate vinaigrette dressing and toasty naan bread. It was delicious. Bill ordered the “Caesar Salad”. It had hearts of romaine lettuce tossed with shaved Parmesan cheese, herb croutons and the BBC’s own creamy Caesar dressing. He also asked them to add a grilled chicken breast. He said that the portion size was perfect. We each had a glass of wine and enjoyed a pleasant conversation.
Stained Glass Lights

Stained Glass Lights

One of the things that I like most about the BBC’s interior is the beautiful stained glass chandeliers over the bar. Many years ago I used to work with stained glass. I had a little workshop in my house and while my small children were napping, I would make window ornaments and small decorative objects. I had the dream of making lamps like the ones at the BBC, but never quite reached that skill level. I guess that life got in the way. However, I do enjoy looking at the shimmering colors and admiring the skill of the artist who created those beautiful lights.
