Angelica on Cape Cod

The Palmer House’s front garden has been drawing quite a bit of interest this summer.

Angelica in the Garden

Angelica is a native herb of continental Europe. The origin of its name is from at story about a monk, who when praying for a cure for the plague, was visited by St. Michael the Archangel, and was shown the herb. It has antibacterial properties and is used to treat indigestion, anemia, coughs and colds.

As you can see the bees enjoy it also. We just think that it is an interesting plant to have in our garden. I have put a name tag on the fence this year, because so many people have asked about that “strange looking plant”. Our plants are about 5 feet tall, however, I have read that they can grow up to 8 feet.
